Early life of Kalaingar Karunanidhi


Birth date of Kalaingar Karunanidhi is 3-June'1924. Birth place is Thirukuvalai in Thiruvarur district of Tamil Nadu. Father is Muthuvel and mother is Anjugam.He is affectionately referred as Kalaignar Karunanidhi.

Kalaingar karunanidhi has married three times, his wives are Padmavathy, Dayalu Ammal and Rajathi Ammal. He has 4 sons and 2 daughters. His sons are M.K.Muthu, M.K.Azhagiri, the Chennai city mayor M.K.Stalin and M.K.Tamilarasu and daughters are Selvi and Kanimozhi.

Karunanidhi in Tamil cinema began as a script writer. Debut movie is Parasakthi is an important movie in his career. Even though he is in film industry, he involved politics also. He used Tamil cinema for propagating his political ideas. Now he is the head of Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam(DMK).

Political life of Kalaingar Karunanidhi


Very first protest by Karunanidhi was anti-Hindi protest in Tamilnadu in kallakudi. Karunanidhi was in Justice party headed by Thandhai Periyar. Then Karunanidhi joined in DMK after Tamilnadu political leader Annaduraifloated it.

Very first election victory was 1957 TamilNadu assembly in Kulithalai assembly. He became the treasurer of DMK in 1961 and deputy leader of opposition in assembly in the year of 1962. Later he was the minister of Public Works Department when his party cam to power in 1967. 

First election won by Karunanidhi was for the Chief Minister of TamilNadu election 1969 after the death of Annadurai who was the mentor of Karunanidhi on 1969. He is hold the record of winning election in every time in his political career.

Karunanidhi's Chief minister periods are 1969-1971, 1971-1976, 1989-1991, 1996-2001, 2006-till date.
